At Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, we believe that every individual deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. In alignment with this belief, our Institute Social Responsibility (ISR) Cell – Samatva – strives to make a meaningful difference by engaging with communities and promoting the spirit of giving back. Established in 2008 as Prayatna, the ISR cell has evolved over the years from supporting a few underprivileged students to collaborating with NGOs on wide-ranging initiatives. For over a decade, Samatva has been an integral part of the institute, driven by a vision of inclusivity, empathy, and action. Despite the rigors of management education, our student volunteers continue to devote time and effort to create social impact through thoughtfully curated events and long-term initiatives.
Our flagship initiative, Inspirit, is a year-long evening tutorial program that supports 60+ underprivileged children from areas surrounding the campus. These children, studying in classes 5 to 10 across Marathi, semi-English, and English medium schools, receive academic support along with focused attention on value education and personality development. The program also works closely with parents to spread awareness about hygiene, education, and their role in their child’s holistic development.
Mental Health Week is celebrated with a range of engaging and reflective activities to promote emotional well-being and mindfulness across the SCMHRD community. Activities like Gratitude Day and interactive sessions with Symbiosis Centre for Emotional Wellbeing (SCEW) help students connect on a deeper emotional level, while thoughtful gestures are extended to faculty members as well. For the Inspirit children, fun and meaningful activities such as yoga, art-based expression, and dance sessions are conducted, providing them a joyful and supportive space to explore mental wellness.
The Joy of Giving, celebrated during Christmas, brings together students and faculty who generously sponsor and fulfill the gift wishes of the Inspirit children. The celebration includes games, performances, and festive decor, culminating in heartfelt moments of joy as the children receive gifts they had wished for, making the season special for both the givers and the receivers.
In addition to the above-mentioned events pertaining particularly to serving the causes of underprivileged children, Samatva also undertakes initiatives to extend its impact beyond campus. As part of Vrikshak, our annual tree plantation drive, saplings are planted around the campus and nearby areas to promote a greener and more sustainable environment. A cleanliness drive is conducted annually to contribute towards a cleaner environment and to spread awareness about hygiene and civic responsibility. We also curate Samadhan, a publication that captures inspiring stories of students working with NGOs, showcasing the innovative solutions and efforts made toward community upliftment.
As a team, our focus is on helping those who are not as resourceful and privileged as we are. We try to do our bit and support the dreams of a few, aiding them in their journeys.
